Carmen: The Mopera
In CARMEN: THE MOPERA, Julie Goell promotes, produces, directs, conducts, acts, sings and dances the entire content of the opera Carmen from her post as toilet matron at the opera house with a cast of mops, dusters, clothes pins, coffee cups and spoons, a janitor’s pail, a “Caution When Wet” sign, a small shopping cart, and a flashlight.
Julie Goell toured with the Commedia del’Arte company I Gesti and taught physical comedy skills with Roy Bosier at Teatro Studio. She worked in the circus in “Schaubude” and toured Italy singing jazz with the Big Band of Tesaccio. She appeared on Broadway in “Ghetto” and directed at the Spoleto Festival. Recently, Ms. Goell was a Henson Foundation Artist in Residence at University of CT Puppet Arts Program.
“Delicately executed physical comedy, worthy of Chaplin himself.”
