Dearly Earned - an original play by Pontine Movement Theatre

Industrialization
The story of industrialization in New England begins with the rapid proliferation of textile mills in the early 19th century. The mills transformed the landscape of the lives of ordinary citizens by creating new towns, drawing workers off the farm, and later bringing in large numbers of European immigrants.

Dearly Earned is a full length play, bringing to life the realities of working in a 19th century mill town. This site is designed to tell the story behind the play, with an emphasis on serving the interests of educators.

... "I shall send you five dollars, and Leland says he shall send five the first that he earns. So you must get some good comfortable clothes, and buy a little stove for the front room, and hire somebody to chop the woodpile."
